Warren Haynes Presents: The Benefit Concert Volume 8

warren_haynes_presents_volume_8.jpgIn its 20th year, the Christmas Jam, presented by Gov’t Mule frontman Warren Haynes, has become something of an institution, with all proceeds benefiting Asheville, North Carolina’s Habitat for Humanity.

It has also become one of the year’s most anticipated musical events, with featured artists spanning the spectrum of American music, from rock and jam to bluegrass and country. To commemorate the event, Haynes documents  the musical marathons with The Benefit Concert releases. The most recent, Warren Haynes Presents: The Benefit Concert Volume 8, is a three our celebration of sights and sounds. Filmed on December 15 and 16, 2006, the event boasts stellar performances by the Taj Mahal Trio, The New Orleans Social Club, and, of course, Gov’t Mule, whose performance of Neil Young’s “Cortez the Killer” with guest Dave Matthews is the DVD’s highlight.

But this release is much more than just music. Spanning two days, including the annual Pre-Jam held at Asheville’s The Orange Peel – a warm up for the main event – and various interviews with the players, Warren Haynes Presents: The Benefit Concert Volume 8 truly captures the spirit of the event and the camaraderie among the musicians. This Christmas gift is not just for Habitat for Humanity, but for music lovers everywhere. Thanks to Warren Haynes and The Benefit Concert series, this celebration can be enjoyed time and time again.

Warren Haynes Presents: The Benefit Concert Volume 8 is out now on Evil Teen.
