Few can throw a Christmas party like Warren Haynes. He has brought his Christmas Jam to Asheville, North Carolina each December for the last 21 years with a dual purpose: raise money for Habitat for Humanity and give music fans a star-studded experience unlike any other. And year after year, the Christmas Jam delivers.
As a byproduct of the annual event, Haynes issues archival releases that document past Christmas Jams. The most recent installment, Warren Haynes Presents: The Benefit Concert Vol. 3, was culled from the 13th annual concert held in 2001, and it features performances from Blues Traveler, Phil and Friends, Gov’t Mule, and a host of additional guests. Stand-out performances include Blues Traveler’s “Alone” with Edwin McCain, Oteil Burbridge, Jimmy Herring, John Popper and Danny Barnes; Phil & Friends “Night of a Thousand Stars; and a reading of the Crosby, Stills & Nash classic “Almost Cut My Hair,” by Gov’t Mule with Rob Barraco, Dave Schools and Robert Randolph.
Warren Haynes Christmas Jam is good music for a good cause during the perfect time of year for giving. And the Warren Haynes Presents series continues the goal of the annual event by benefiting Humanity and delivering quality performances by a host of top notch musicians. It is the best thing next to being there.
Warren Haynes Presents: The Benefit Concert Vo. 3 is out now on Evil Teen.
