Trey Anastasio Band
The Riviera Theatre
February 27, 2011
Trey Anastasio took his full band — Russ Lawton (drums) Tony Markellis (bass), Ray Paczkowski (keyboards), Jennifer Hartswick (trumpet, vocals), Russell Remington (saxophones, flute), Natalie Cressman (trombone, vocals) — into Chicago’s Riviera Theatre on a recent Sunday night for offerings both acoustic, electric, and a mixture thereof. Boasting the same Classic TAB lineup that Anastasio took on the road in 2009, it seems as though he has found a chemistry with these six highly skilled cast of players.
Though the electric set featured mainly TAB numbers, there is something special about hearing the orchestration of the tunes, complete with female presence and a full-band sound that Phish cannot produce for the obvious reasons of lack of instruments and women.
