From the minds of Scott McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows, Minus 5) and Steve Wynn (Dream Syndicate, Steve Wynn and the Miracle 3) comes a novel, irreverent tribute to the game of baseball entitled Volume 1: Frozen Ropes and Dying Quails delivered by the collective known as The Baseball Project.
Enlisting R.E.M. lead guitarist Peter Buck to share instrumental duties, McCaughey and Wynn had the winning formula to translate foreign compositions like "Fernando" to modern and adult rock formats. The result is a brash spin on old stories brought refreshingly back to life. Each song is carefully constructed with Wynn and McCaughey sharing vocals on "Past Time" and "Ted Fucking Williams." Buck’s string bending prowess accents humming, twisted, alternative trips into "Broken Man" and the sing-a-long "Gratitude (for Curt Flood)." Drummer Linda Pitmon (Miracle 3, Golden Smog) powers the upbeats around the bases on the memorable "Satchel Paige Said."
Produced by Adam Selzer, Volume 1 connects and hits for the cycle via the musical and lyrical brilliance of both Scott McCaughey and Steve Wynn.
Volume 1: Frozen Ropes and Dying Quails is out now on Yep Roc Records.
