Behold, the power of Cheese!  On the tenth anniversary of what is surely one of the greatest shows the String Cheese Incident has ever performed (11/17/2000!), the band releases a new, aurally re-tweaked edition of that show as part of its new Rhythm of the Road series.

Rhythm of the Road Volume One: Incident in Atlanta – 11.17.2000 captures a show at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, Georgia, in the midst of a beastly fall 2000 tour that put SCI in ever-expanding, new venues with a growing fanbase. To those new to SCI or unfamiliar with their older material, this is a special show for the raw energy exerted and the jams spontaneously produced that night. The shared grooves are deeply traversed, and the insanely spectacular musicianship of special guest Tony Furtado nearly blows the top off the Tabernacle.

Hearing Tony tear up bluegrass tunes and jams throughout this show is what makes it special, accenting the band during a period prior to the newer, “trance-style” SCI that dominated their later years.  Instead, this show is a perfect example of SCI at their best, showcasing a nice mix of jams, differing styles, and lots of bluegrass picking which was synonymous with their beginnings as a band.

If you have any interest in SCI at all, or if you’re a new fan who needs to brush up on the past, I encourage you to check out Rhythm of the Road Volume One: Incident in Atlanta – 11.17.2000.  It’s what SCI was (and should still be) all about.

Rhythm of the Road Volume One: Incident in Atlanta – 11.17.2000 is out now on SCI Fidelity Records.
