Sol Driven Train is one of those groups that logs plenty of miles on the road. Averaging 150 live dates per year, the band entered Charleston Sound in late 2012 with the task of taking their entertaining stage show out of the bars, into the soundproof room of the studio, and onto a new CD.
Underdog keeps in mind the time the band has spent on the road and consistently explores the themes of balance within ourselves and our relationships at home. Funded fully through fan support by Kickstarter, the album carries the band’s soul-lifting, Afro-Caribbean rhythms through 10 songs that are sure to elevate the band’s growing fan base. “Fuego! Fuego!†and “Lady from Chiang Mai,†with their big brass hooks, had me marching to my computer to look for my next live show experience.
Sol Driven Train always puts on a great show. It’s no doubt why the band has a loyal base of ambassadors throughout North America. With Underdog, the band shows that it can produce a mature album that stays true to the fun-loving quality that keeps its horn-infused nights blazing on the road.
Underdog is out now.
