Rodrigo y Gabriela
April 28, 2012
Reeling from the recent release of Area 52 (January 24, ATO), Rodrigo y Gabriela took to the United States road following a stretch in Europe. Area 52, the fifth studio effort that finds the duo of Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero backed by an orchestra that bears the moniker that resulted from the album’s Cuban recording location has been met with mixed reviews by those who have come to not only know the duo for the Megadeath infused south of the border guitar mastery, but to love them for it.
This said, when in the live setting, whether with C.U.B.A. or without, the energy remains as palpable as it ever has been, demanding the attention of everyone within earshot. This was the case when the collective descended upon Atlanta’s Tabernacle on a recent Sunday night. Whether playing extensive solos or trading licks on older and new material alike, the kinetic rate at The Tabernacle was at peak levels, something not out of the ordinary for the six stringed majestic duo.
