Two weeks ago, reality had yet to even begin to set in for those who had taken in the weekend at the majestic Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park for the annual Suwannee Springfest.

In its sixteenth year, the Spanish moss draped oak trees and beautiful black water welcomed its family like a mother would a son who had been abroad for the winter. And once inside the park, it was certain… everyone was at home.

Throughout the weekend, ears were pricked with some of the finest string bands from across the amber waves of grain and eyes were graced with lighting that could not have more suitable for the setting, seeming to improve by bounds with every outing that Big IV Productions has a hand in.

From the tried and true bands from Springfest‘s storied history like Donna the Buffalo to virgins of not only the fest, but the park itself, Elephant Revival, those who opted to start the “summer” festival season with its opening act could not have made a better choice.

With a schedule that meant very little due to most bands having at least one guest (or in Larry Keel and Natural Bridge’s case, eight at one time), there were once in a lifetime opportunities to catch a sound that will never be heard from again.

To say that Honest Tune was out in full force would be like saying that Yonder Mountain String Band’s Jeff Austin makes slightly odd facial expressions when the guy contorts his face in a manner that would make a sideshow freak question his own reality.

From the photo pits to the backstage to the woods and campgrounds, we were there.

Last week we brought out the first of two Live, Backstage & Unplugged installments (that featured Emmitt Nershi Band, Elephant Revival and The Mosier Brothers) . On Friday, we launched a contest for an official poster signed by YMSB, Vince Herman, members of Greensky Bluegrass and Larry Keel. Tomorrow we will present words and photos. Friday we will wrap things up with the second Live Backstage & Unplugged segment (featuring Jim Lauderdale, The Infamous Stringdusters, Donna the Buffalo, Larry Keel) that will be coupled with some other goodness.

But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, allow us to take you on a journey that we think you will appreciate whether you were at Springfest or not. In what will be better than most episodes of TV that you will watch this week, we are going to try something new and attempt to take you to (or back to) the festival in a way that we else have never done.

Through a mix of exclusive artist interviews and performances from multiple spots in the park and a quite sizable portion of scene and stage footage taken from the weekend, we invite you to sit back, relax, listen, watch and and enjoy as Honest Tune presents LIKE NEVER BEFORE: On the Scene at Suwannee Springfest.
