Matisyahu has made his trek through the south. Having toured extensively this summer, he and his Dub Trio backing band brought their brand of reggae to Birmingham’s unlikely — and somewhat fancy — Alys Stephens venue. Throughout the course of the evening Matis and company took the audience through an energetic and inspiring offering of re-worked numbers that span the now vast catalog of the Hassidic singer, songwriter and emcee.

On the heels of his most recent studio effort (Brand New Day, out 8/23 — see below to stream the title track), Trevor Hall was in tow. Interestingly enough, Hall’s band now permanently features former Matisyahu guitarist and long time collaborator, guitarist Aaron Dugan.

Birmingham photographer Andi Rice was on the scene to capture the evening’s happenings through his lens.
