With the release of their third album, Above The Weather, Americana band, Leroy Justice, seems poised for a breakthrough into the big leagues. Reminding the listener at time of bands like Band of Horses, Gov’t Mule and Perpetual Groove, they deliver a record full of songs with great songwriting and broad themes. Singer and main songwriter Jason Gallagher’s plaintive voice is full of emotions that draw you in and don’t let go.
But the real star of this album is drummer Josh Karis. The big drum sound is complimented by stellar playing on standout cuts like “Before I Die” and “Heroine,” although each member of the band fulfills their roles in perfect synchronicity. The beautiful piano that starts off the track “New Island” acts as a perfect accent to Gallagher’s voice. Add to that the background vocals that build into a crescendo of hope and faith.
Music is always in need of bands like Leroy Justice that carry on the tradition of great roots rock music, singing songs of love and the American dream.
Above the Weather is out now on Elm City Music.
