Always working in the shadows of a great band can lead many to underestimate a truly great player’s talents. Such has been the case of Kyle Hollingsworth, the former String Cheese Incident keyboard player, who steps out to deliver the stunning long player, Then There’s Now.
Hollingsworth has worked with a who’s who dictionary of the jam band world, and his instincts prove to be killers on the aggressive organ workout "Phat Cat." A lover of improvised rock, rhythm, and jazz textures, he captures the elusive lightning-in-a-bottle fusion of "Piece of Mine" and "She." For those that enjoy extended interplay, Hollingsworth offers the brilliant, nearly six minute tour de force "Wide Open." One of Then There’s Now‘s greatest moments is inside the punk, funk opening track, "Way That it Goes," an endlessly catchy chorus teaming with simmering synthesized fury broght to a perfect boil.
Then There’s Now announces the much anticipated arrival of the major solo artist lurking within Kyle Hollingsworth.
The There’s Now is out now on SCI Fidelity.
