King Wilkie : King Wilkie Presents: The Wilkie Family Singers

king_wilkie_family_singers.jpgKing Wilkie, named after Bill Monroe’s horse, cultivates a sound that borrows from alt-rock while retaining the backwoods instrumental scrap that gave the group its lauded start on the bluegrass scene on King Wilkie Presents: The Wilkie Family Singers.

Joined here by David Bromberg, Peter Rowan, Robyn Hitchcock, Abigail Washburn and John McCuen, the band blends lush songcraft with rootsy elements to arrive at a place somewhere between Yo La Tengo, My Morning Jacket and a box-car ride through the hills of West Virginia. Standout cuts include "Videotape," "Goodbye Rose," and "Symbaline."

King Wilkie Presents: The Wilkie Family Singers is out now on Casa Nueva.
