Canadian songwriter Kate Maki refreshes the fine art of composition on her new disc, On High.
Just the type of recording that makes it’s way to the big or small screen, On High contains several experimental and alluringly quirky tunes that stand out, including the tasteful "Blue Morning" and "Wanted Ads." Beginning her song cycle with "Highway," Maki makes an immediate connection with the listener, gripping the peaceful sounding landscape with her lush, soft voice.
Producer Howie Gelb takes Maki’s material and molds On High into a marvel of folk reinterpretation. Dale Murray on guitar, Nathan Lawr on drums, and Dave Draves on organ and vocals lend their talents. Yet, it is the striking vision of Maki that settles in and takes hold within On High, another bright release from a brainy and abstract voice in modern music.
On High is out now on OW OM.
