A singer-songwriter album at its core, The Little Fox EP by Justin Jones is a solid performance, but with obvious room to grow. The album will be comforting for some – an alt-country album that stays with formulaic material. On the other hand, Jones’ voice and obvious music talent may leave the listener wanting more. All of the fundamentals are there for a soulful and powerful album, including well-crafted songs and solid production. You want Jones to leave his soul on The Little Fox EP, but in the 23 minutes, he never really takes the chance.
This is Seth Hurwitz’s first release on his 9:30 Records. Named after the club he owns in D.C., 9:30 Club, where Jones’ has frequently opened for major acts, this, undoubtedly, will not be the last of Justin Jones.
The Little Fox EP is out now on 9:30 Records.
