Juke Joint Duo
June 26, 2009
The old bandshell in Overton Park housed many a concert over the years, including the what many music historians consider the first ever rock and roll show – on July 30, 1954, Elvis Presley was the opening act for Slim Whitman.
In 1997 the Levitt Shell was renovated, and reopened as a free music venue in September 2008.
June has been a hot month in Memphis and in the midst of the high 90s temperatures The Juke Joint Duo – Cedric Burnside and Lightnin’ Malcom – cranked the heat up even more with their North Mississippi hill country blues.
