With 20 rock-solid releases already in the bag, Joe Louis Walker has long been established as a credible force of the blues. On Between a Rock and the Blues, Walker continues to produce the kind of no-nonsense fare for which he’s known.
From the barn-burning opener, “I’m Tide,” to the horn-enhanced, barrel-house rocker “Eyes Like a Cat,” on to the slinky-smooth, Robert Cray reminiscent “Black Widow Spider” and the heavy grinding “If There’s a Heaven,” Louis tells the age-old stories of hard life while dropping searing guitar work. He’s joined by Kevin Eubanks of The Tonight Show fame, who appears on "I’ve Been Down" and "If There’s A Heaven" and who provided his studio in Los Angeles for the album’s song production.
Fans of the blues will appreciate the pleasant range of grooves combined with confidence in Joe Louis Walker’s latest.
Between a Rock and the Blues is out now on Stony Plain Records.
