Jerry Joseph and drummer Steve Drizos are currently hard at work in Dave Barbe’s Chase Park Transduction studio in Athens, Georgia recording a CD of new material, most of which has been written in just the last two weeks. Joseph says plans for this session are to record two songs in full each day, much like “cutting both sides of a 45.”
The sessions commenced with the recording of “Letter to Chico,” on July 24. An upbeat track, “Chico” features Joseph’s uniquely melodic vocals, filled with his trademark angst. While the song may never be a massive commercial hit, Joseph delivers a song that all the young Ramones wanna-bes are dying to write.
Joseph said that “Anybody that plays on the record is going to have to play an instrument that they don’t usually play.”
While working on the CD, Joseph will also be performing twice locally, first on July 31 at Smith’s Olde Bar in Atlanta, followed by an Athens show on Thursday, August 2 at the Melting Point.
