Emerging from downtown Lancaster, PA and centered around a shared rehearsal/studio space that is the jumping off point for many of the area’s best bands is Felix Lighter. They are armed with their debut album, the self-titled Felix Lighter that is the living representation of the band’s musical foundations.
It is a foundation that Aural States calls a “whiskey-soaked, psychedelic rush of classic guitar rock that is adventurous, and can go in an instant from balls out rocking, to an inventive prog-rockish movement, to a subtle acoustic strum. Their songs are not neatly tied up in a box. There are dangling solos, jangly jams, and a passionate intensity that brings each song to life.”
Formed in 2009, the band was born from widely-divergent musical backgrounds, and it is this diverse musical palate that has come together to form the Felix Lighter sound, a sound rooted deep in the soul of Rock ‘n’ Roll. This unique sound Felix Lighter has created has allowed them, in their short time together, to comfortably share the stage with blues-master Kenny Wayne Sheppard, the alt-country sound of The Youngers, and roots-rockers The Bridge, among others. Recently they were personally picked by legendary punk veterans The Dead Milkmen to open for them at their headlining set on the World Café Main Stage as part of the 2010 Philadelphia Film & Music Festival.
Joe Jack Talcum, guitarist for the Dead Milkmen declares about Felix Lighter, "Their music is confident, sometimes joyful, sometimes dark. I sense an underlying sense of humor and hope, even when topics include the end of the world or sinus blockage. The musicianship is top-notch."
Felix Lighter the album is the perfect representation of this musical palate, moving seamlessly from the raging-rocker “SLX”, to the punk-pop groove of “Fall Back”, through the sublime “Turnpike”, to the sweet-lament of “Airport Pickup”, Felix Lighter is a glorious musical trip.
Felix Lighter plays next October 28th with The Bridge at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA. More dates to be annonuced shortly.
