One of the South’s most enduring rock-and-roll bands, Drivin’ N’ Cryin’ has promised four EPs over the course of a year, each spotlighting a different facet of its music.

True to the promise, Kevn Kinney and company kick off the releases with Songs From The Laundromat with a reconfigured lineup (Sadler Vaden is now on lead guitar) focusing on the band’s “rock” personality. The quartet dives in with a strong opening duo of “Dive” and “Ain’t Waitin’ On Tomorrow,” and nods to fellow Georgians REM with a shimmering track named in their honor (“REM”), featuring lyrics pulled from the now-defunct superstars’ compositions.

It is a short, five-song ride, but Songs From The Laundromat is a promising start to a new era of Drivin’ N’ Cryin’.

Songs From The Laundromat is out now on New! Records.
