Clifton Williams successfully coordinates a cool, breezy modulation with the Blue James Band, and the humming disc Will is the result.
It’s hard not to draw comparisons to Dave Matthews Band, 311 or O.A.R. on the opening track, "You Should Know." "Believe" has a light reggae calypso vibe with Williams’ Jack Johnson-like, throaty delivery sailing atop the Blue James Band’s island rhythms. Propelled by Doug Birmingham’s inspired stick-work on the skins, and Brian Levine’s bubbling bass lines, Will is music for the mind with body shaking grooves. Williams is the supreme overseer, and his production plus improvisation talents are what make Will such an alluring listen.
For pure summer fun, one should look no further than the delights hidden inside the album Will and the laidback throw down initiated by Clifton Williams & the Blue James Band.
Will is out now on Chappy Payne Records.
