As part of Vail’s Hot Summer Nights Free Concert Series, Chali 2na rolled into the resort town and skier’s haven, his signature and unequivocal baritone vocal style in tow.

Chali 2na burst onto the scene in 2000 as one of the “four MCs that sounded like one” that the world came to know as Jurassic 5, the hip-hop ensemble that garnered the respect of genre-spanning peers (see: Dave Matthews in “Work it Out”). But Jurassic 5 was just the beginning for Chali.

Over the years, fans of vastly different music have come to know Chali 2na. On a given night, he can be found on stages that share only one commonality: music. Never minding his role as a founding member of Ozomatli, Chali’s unmistakeable vocals can be found in virtually every niche. From dubstep king, Rusko, (“Gadget Go Go“) to funk stalwarts, Galactic, (“Think Back“) and mainstream alt-metal early millennium giants, Linkin Park,  (“Frgt/10“), his unique ability to get in where he fits in has resulted in something special in each case.

On this evening in Vail though, it was all about Chali 2na and his band, the House of Vibe, who showed up to deliver a blend of hip-hop with R&B, a tinge of rock and a load of rap, providing fans the opportunity to shake a booty with one of music’s most diverse talents on a perfect Vail evening.
